Auto unlock DOES NOT follow the user to other computers if the user account is part of a Domain.
WD Discovery, WD Security and WD Drive Utilities should both installed to ensure consistent auto unlock operations. The auto unlock process can take 5 minutes or longer if the drive is connected to the computer at the time of reboot or power on. The drive will auto unlock upon logoff and login, power off and power on or after the computer has been rebooted with the drive connected. "enable auto lock on THIS drive, for THIS computer, for THIS user profile" The drive will only auto unlock when connected to the computer with the user account logged in where the auto lock setting was enabled. Avoid un-authorized access to an unlocked drive by password protecting the computer login and locking the computer screen when not in use. The drive will auto unlock and be accessible to anyone using the currently logged-in user profile on that computer only. Certain models of WD My Book do not support the WD Unlocker VCD and require WD Security and WD Drive Utilities or WD Discovery to be installed on the computer to unlock and access the drive contents. The data I will keep shall be secure and shall not be able to be used by 3rd parties freely if taken or stolen just in case. If I cannot install Smartware on my new HDD or use lock-unlock function of that software properly, this HDD is no use for me. I saw similar questions in the forum but what I need is only lock-unlock function to be working properly on my new HDD. Smartware software is installed on my laptop and I tried to install lock-unlock function to new HDD but it doesnt recognize new HDD as External HDD. I didnt realize that when I was buying because long time ago I bought 500 GB WD HDD and it already included software (and I can use lock-unlock function without problem). However, no software was installed on the HDD. I just bought a 1 TB WD External Drive (WD Elements SE 1 TB) to use for backing up business-related data and I need to use Lock-Unlock function (coming with WD Smartware I think)
